What Is a Midlife Transformational Journey?
Midlife Transformational Journeys Explained
Midlife is the period between your mid-30s to mid-60s; a midlife transformational journey can occur any time during that period!
Not a “Midlife Crisis”
Commonly known as a “midlife crisis” in pop culture, this journey is often prompted by circumstances that cause one to feel a loss control, such as the loss of a job or passing of a loved one, combined with existential angst resulting from aging. Traditionally, the crisis is superficially depicted as an older man buying a sports car or having an affair with a younger woman. Yet, this transformational time is an equally gendered experience that, though it may feel like a “crisis,” actually holds the potential for significant growth and self-discovery.
A Natural Evolution to Align with Your True Self
While the process is marked by significant internal and external change, it is actually a natural evolution that invites the gradual reevaluation of old, conditioned ways of thinking and acting, so new, more authentic ways can come forth into the world.
This journey is about aligning with your true self, so that what no longer serves can be let go, making room for what wants to come. The transformation typically unfolds over years and is anything but linear or straight-forward. There will be setbacks and breakthroughs; there will be discomfort and revelation. The journey is not for the faint of heart, and it is one that many will pause or stop along the way, when the risks of leaving a familiar way of life or the challenges of embracing a new way seem too great. This is all normal.
The Rewards
However, the rewards of taking this journey are great. Along the way, you discover who you really are and how you really want to be in this life. And in healing yourself, you heal the world.
